The Lonzell Tate Foundation was established in honor of Lonzell Tate, a United States Army veteran who experienced homelessness and spent more than 30 years living on the streets of Chicago before passing away from stomach cancer in January 2014. His story continues to inspire Chicago Recovery Community’s commitment to serving veterans and families experiencing hardship.

Created to honor his legacy, the foundation provides support to homeless veterans and families of fallen soldiers throughout the Chicago area. Through fundraising efforts and charitable donations, the program helps provide resources that address immediate needs while supporting families as they work toward greater stability.

Support provided through the foundation includes:

  • Financial assistance of up to $1,000 toward college education for children of veteran families
  • Emergency hotel vouchers providing up to three days of temporary shelter for individuals and families in need
  • Counseling and case management services for veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness

The Lonzell Tate Foundation allows CRC to carry Lonzell’s legacy forward by helping veterans and their families access support, opportunity, and hope when they need it most.

Food insecurity affects thousands of families every year. CRC partners with community organizations and supporters to provide emergency food assistance, helping individuals and families access nutritious meals during difficult times. Includes food distribution, community pantry support and emergency assistance.

The Women’s Recovery Circle is a supportive community designed to provide women with a safe and welcoming space to connect, heal, grow, and move forward together. The program recognizes that recovery can look different for every woman and creates an environment where participants can openly share experiences, receive encouragement, and build meaningful connections without fear of judgment.

Through facilitated conversations, peer support, personal development activities, and access to helpful resources, the Women’s Recovery Circle encourages women to strengthen their confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and continue working toward greater stability and well-being.

Participants may experience:

  • A safe and judgment-free environment
  • Peer support and meaningful connection
  • Guided conversations around recovery and healing
  • Personal growth and self-reflection
  • Encouragement and accountability
  • Confidence and self-esteem building
  • Healthy coping and life-skills development
  • Connections to community resources and additional support

The Women’s Recovery Circle is about more than navigating recovery—it is about creating community, sisterhood, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. Women are reminded that they do not have to navigate life’s challenges alone and are encouraged to recognize their strength, celebrate their progress, and continue building a healthier and more hopeful future.

Together, women can heal, grow, and move forward—one conversation and one connection at a time.

Feeding & Crisis Street Outreach Program

The Heart & Hands Initiative is Chicago Recovery Community’s compassionate street outreach program serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness, hunger, and hardship. Rooted in dignity, care, and hope, the initiative meets people where they are by providing immediate assistance while helping connect them to resources that can support greater stability.

Through mobile outreach, community engagement, and partnerships with local organizations, participants may receive:

  • Warm meals and food assistance
  • Hygiene kits and essential supplies
  • Clothing and seasonal necessities
  • Crisis support and encouragement
  • Connections to shelters and housing resources
  • Healthcare referrals

Heart & Hands goes beyond providing a meal.
